Short 100-word biography:

Dr. Mamta Manglani is an astute clinician with more than 35 years of clinical experience in Pediatrics, over 30 years in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and over 20 years in Pediatric HIV/AIDS.

She completed her MD Pediatrics in 1983 from Topiwala National Medical College & BYL Nair Ch. Hospital and continued serving at the same institutions as a Lecturer in Pediatrics. She then joined LTM Medical College & General Hospital, Sion, Mumbai (popularly known as Sion Hospital) as an Associate Professor in Pediatrics. It was here that she began her career in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology under her mentor, Dr. MR Lokeshwar. She was promoted as a Professor of Pediatrics at LTMMC & LTMGH in 1996. In 1997, she began her journey in the field of Pediatric HIV/AIDS as it was the need of the day then! She took reins of the department of Pediatrics in 2008 as the Head of the Department. Dr. Manglani superannuated as the HOD, Pediatrics in January 2017. While at Sion, she created the a ‘State-of-the-Art’ Pediatric Centre of Excellence for HIV Care, Thalassemia Day Care Centre and Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Centre in October 2013, the Nutrition Rehabilitation, Research and Training Centre at UHC, Dharavi in collaboration with UNICEF and Toddler Food Partners, USA in April 2014, the “State-of-the-Art” Pediatric Hematology-Oncology ward with a one-bedded Bone Marrow Transplant unit in November 2014 and the Autism Intervention Centre in 2015 at LTM Medical College & General Hospital. She then went on to establish the MCGM’s CTC, PHO and BMT Centre in February 2017 with guidance from MCGM, generous support from Tata Trusts and Cipla Foundation.

She is a member of various important committees and organizations and held various prestigious positions in various Organizations. She has conducted several research projects as Principal Investigator as well as co-investigator, guided many students for their postgraduate dissertation and has achieved several awards for the same. She has been awarded many orations too.

CTC Experience

Dr. Manglani heads the Centre as the Director of the Centre. She is responsible for setting up the “State-of-the Art” Superspecialty Centre for Thalassemia, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and BMT. She leads the Administrative and Clinical team from the front and ensures holistic and comprehensive care of the patients. She is an astute physician and a brilliant administrator. She also has a teaching fellowship programme under her.

Professional Highlights

  1. Collaboration between LTMG Hospital & Jiv Daya Foundation, U.S.A. for Pediatric Oncology Unit, Sion, Mumbai for supporting our centre by funding personnel for Pediatric Oncology to improve outcomes in children with cancers.
  2. ‘Regional Pediatric ART Center’ established in 2006 through NACO was re-designated as ‘Pediatric Center of Excellence for HIV Care’ by NACO in Nov 2011.
