Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Our Centre boasts of an  8-bedded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (also known as bone marrow transplantation – BMT) facility with “state-of-the-art”, HEPA filtered, positive pressure rooms.The team consists of  well-trained, dedicated transplant physicians, post-doctoral fellows, resident doctors, trained nurses, trained paramedical staff including medical counsellors, physiotherapist, dietician & social workers as well as ancillary staff . It is also supported by a multidisciplinary team of various pediatric superspecialists.

Transplants services are offered to patients with the following indications:  

  • Transfusion-dependent Thalassemia
  • Bone marrow failure syndromes including acquired severe aplastic anemia, inherited bone marrow failure syndromes such as Fanconi’s anemia, dyskeratosis congenita etc.
  • Various inherited transfusion dependent anemias
  • Relapsed/Refractory leukemias, lymphomas
  • Solid tumors
  • Immunodeficiency disorders
  • Metabolic disorders

Bone marrow harvest is done in the OT/Peripheral blood stem cell harvest is done via Apheresis machine, both types of harvests are managed by the BMT team. Cryopreservation is done in-house.

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT/BMT) – OPD Services:

The Centre runs an outpatient BMT clinic on Mondays and Thursdays. This service is available for all new referrals for transplant as well as follow up of transplanted patients. All newly referred patients are assessed and scheduled for transplants as feasible, once the donor is identified (in case of allogeneic transplants).
