Director's Message
Welcome to the MCGM – Comprehensive Thalassemia Care, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplantation Centre, Borivali (E), Mumbai (A Satellite Centre of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College & General Hospital, Sion, Mumbai).
MCGM – CTC, PHO & BMT Centre is one of it’s kind, stand-alone “State-of-the-Art” super specialty hospital catering to children and adults living with thalassemia, and children with cancers and other blood disorders. It also boasts of an 8-bedded bone marrow transplantation unit commensurate with international standards.
The Centre was established in April 2017 with a vision to provide quality care especially to the non-affording patients. Comprehensive care for thalassemia is one of our major goals at the Centre. In addition, we also diagnose and treat children with various hematological conditions and malignancies. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) or Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) – both autologous and allogeneic is available at No / Nominal cost (based on the economic status of the patient) at CTC, PHO & BMTC. Till date, we have completed more than 200 Bone Marrow/ Hematopoietic stem cell transplants, treated about 700 children with cancers and about 1400 patients with thalassemia have been enrolled for comprehensive care.
We are also proud to state that our Centre is recognized by MUHS for Fellowships in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation. In addition, we run Fellowship courses in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, under the aegis of Indian Academy of Pediatrics. The Centre has been organizing various scientific activities and conducting research projects on various subjects in the field.

Message from Dean LTMMC & LTMGH
Comprehensive Thalassemia Care, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplantation Centre, Borivali (E) is a satellite centre of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, Sion Mumbai-22. Though this is a satellite centre of LTMMC, it has independent Director, who is administrative chief of this centre. This centre also has a separate budget allocation from MCGM. This is a unique centre run by Municipal Corporation of Mumbai, where the children with thalassemia, hematologic disorders and malignancies are taken care of, in the most scientific way. The centre was established in April 2017, when Municipal Corporation received a building under CTS reservation from a builder. The whole building was then designed for a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation centre by Dr. Mamta Manglani, who heads the centre since then. Almost all equipments which are required in this centre have been obtained through donations from various sources. The centre has treated more than 200 patients with Bone Marrow transplant and more than 700 patients of various malignancies with chemotherapy. Financial support for Bone Marrow Transplant is obtained from various donors. This centre is a university recognized hospital for various fellowship courses by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The centre has capacity of 30 indoor patients and about 35 to 40 patients daily report to the centre in the outpatient clinic.
Centre has referrals from all over India. The centre is also attempting to start an accommodation facility “Home Away from Home” for the relatives of the patients who are coming from a long distance. The relatives could stay in this facility when the child is admitted in the hospital and when they are told to come for follow up in a short while after the discharge of child. This “Home Away from Home” facility would be available almost free of charge to the relatives and the patients.
As far as my knowledge goes, there is no such centre run by Central or State Government anywhere in the country. This is unique activity by MCGM and is feather in the cap of Health Department of MCGM.
